Animal feed, which is all feed ingredients that can be given and beneficial to livestock and does not cause negative effects on the livestock body. The feed given must be of high quality which contains substances needed by the body of livestock such as water, carbohydrates, fats and proteins. The nutrients contained in feed are used by livestock to meet basic needs and livestock production.
Animal feed making that took place in Namoriam Village Saturday, May 18, 2019 by GBKP Church members of Namoriam with Resource Persons YAK GBKP Staff Silvia Agnes Yolani Barus is an expert in Animal Husbandry. The animal feed made is for cattle and pigs.
As for what is done by providing material about:
- Making pig feed. Additional types of food for pigs that can be utilized from the surrounding environment such as: Lantaro (Pete Cina) which is high in protein and can handle diarrhea in pigs, nuts, maggots, vegetable/fruit waste and dry feed.
The process of making maggots which consists of bran, flavoring (Royco), Yakult and other supporting ingredients.
- Distribution of the amount of pig feed for: Starter pigs (initial) age of 1 month, Pigs feed Grower (fattening) ages 2-4 months and Finisher Pigs (bro) above the age of 4 months.
- Making Livestock Juice, to increase appetite for livestock (pigs). This livestock juice is made from fruit / vegetable waste, molasses/brown sugar and other ingredients.
- Silage making, namely preservation of feed ingredients through a process of fermentation which produces high water content. The main ingredients for making silage are: grass, bran, brown sugar/molasses and enough water.
- Prebiotic making for herbal medicine from turmeric, ginger, cereals, kencur, ginger, betel leaf, kale, young papaya leaves, pineapple, garlic and other supporting ingredients.
